Perched on spectacular cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Cliff House is one of the crown jewels of San Francisco's Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). Part of the renovation was to house a new two-story dining room with stunning panoramic ocean views. The ceiling of steel beams recalls the Sutro Baths architecture, establishing a connection between the past and the present.
Computer modeling was used as a tool to explore different massing options for the project. Extensive investigation was made in selecting the most desirable views for the project's approval process. With development of the virtual model, views looking to the proposed structure from the PAcific Ocean was possible to offer significant information in determining the height and massing. This project was executed along with C. David Robinson Architects.
